Day 4 - SLO to refugio state beach

Ok so I don't have great service, so the pictures will be coming tomorrow. But just picture me under palm trees right next to the beach, which is my idyllic camp site.

Today was another big day- 90+ miles!! As I was leaving after a delicious diner breakfast this morning (which I just finished on the beach here for dinner), I ran into this other biker going the same way, to San Diego! He lives there but had just taken the train up to SLO so it was his day one; last year he biked down from santa barbara and next year he wants to do from san fran. Anyway, he was super friendly and we biked out of town together for maybe an hour. Then at Pismo beach he wanted to check out the beach, and we parted ways...

During which time I passed through a bunch of beach towns and then made my last major summit (yesyesyes!) Before lompoc. It was about six hours later, when I was leaving from my lunch break and literally pulling out of the shopping center corner I ran back into Felipe! So we biked out of lompoc together again, though there were some brutal long gradual climbs and I couldn't keep up.

Eventually, he got really far ahead, and then I got a flat tire and lost him completely. So, fortunately I was in a nice shady place and then, just as I was putting the wheel back on, Felipe arrived! He turned around because when he didn't see me for a while he'd thought maybe I had a flat. At that point it just needed air so he helped me a little with my new co2 inflater that I'd never tried (super cool! Don't leave home without one!). We continued biking together from there and  to exchange phone numbers just in case since we are on the same route. We rode all the way down to Gaviota state park, my original intended stopping place on the beach. He wanted to check it out but I did not, and since I'm also slower, I just started continuing on the last 10 or so miles to my current beach and he followed later. I'm sure we won't keep riding together the whole way, especially since I'm much slower, but it was cool running into a familiar face a few times.

Now for hot shower, yoga, bed!
