Day 7 - dana point to SAN DIEGO
I made it! Took my time today and rolled into SD around 4, then another 30-40 min. to make it to Liz and Riley's and Emmy's house in Hillcrest. Lots of cute towns on the way, but it took a while to get through the sprawl of La Jolla and into SD. Glad to be here!
Also funny that last night Felipe rolled into camp after me, then I saw him again this afternoon in La Jolla. He was with this other guy Nick from canada who is biking the whole way border to border. He said he ledt July 1. Wow! Maybe I'll do that next year... just kidding.

Day 6 - Venice, LA to Dana Point
After sleeping in a bit, I left Asaad and Nikki's to meet my friend Dan for breakfast. Then I spent at least 3 hours biking out of LA. Mostly I was on bike paths by the beach, but a little while in the city was kind of unexciting. Then there was about 14+ miles (maybe way more???) of trails out of town starting at Huntington Beach also. Much much beach!
I ran into the vans world open surf and skate competition. I didn't have a ticket or go in to see any of the acutal events but it was a busy section of the beach for sure.
The day was otherwise pretty uneventful, just pretty. Rode through Laguna beach and I'm now eating dinner at a place in dana point. My plan is to bike 2 mi down the road from here to camp at doheny state park after eating. Then tomorrow, to SD! Less than 70 mi to go!!

Day 5 - refugio state beach to venice
Another big day - nit sure the total but I think somewhere around 120 mi? I was motivated by having an awesome place to crash in Venice beach, where I am now. Thanks Asaad and Nikki!
Today was basically beach hopping from town to town. I started off through santa barbara and passed through the UC campus. Then went from beach town to town. In Ventura it was like fate, because just as I was pulling in I was going to start looking for a place to pump real air into my tires ( they were getting low and the co2 from the tire change loses pressure faster). The first place I passed... was a bike shop, with free air! They were super nice and I also bought another spare inner tube even though I have one more because I think it's better to have 2 on hand.
Oxnard was ok, where I stopped for lunch. Point mogu was a cool navy base with some shells of rockets and things, and I also passed by weapons training which I heard before I saw... firing range pictured. Then some great cliffs and barren beaches. Until LA county where it got ritzy. Malibu is as you might imagine.
Then I met up with Asaad on the bike path from Santa Monica where he had been out mountain biking. Hooray! He rode me in to his apartment from the pier. It is an amazing place that looks like a pirate treehouse... complete with pool and hot tub we will be hitting later. He is also doing a bunch of my laundry, and then popped champagne. What a great host! We are going to go out for sushi now. Since I'm ahead of schedule, I might sleep in a little before figuring out my next move... goodnight!
